I think some parents may have been a little confused as to how the homework works this last week, so I am going to break it down to try and help clear up any confusion. Just skip over any parts you don't need clarification on. Cover Page
ReadingReading is the most important piece of homework and should be done every night. The second grade requirement is 100 minutes a week. I know that if you add up Monday-Thursday you only get to 80 minutes, so it is important to get those extra 20 minutes in sometime between Friday and Sunday. If you do get those extra minutes in, add them to the homework the next week. Lexia and Raz-Kids can both be counted as reading homework minutes. Just remember to let me know that your child chose that for homework on on the book title lines or down below in the notes section. Math
![]() Attached to the back of the math page is a one that looks like this. This page is for students to work out any problems they need more room for. There is a box for Monday's problems, Tuesday's problems, and so on. Below the table, there is a few things that need to filled out after each day is finished. Please do not forget to have your kiddo do this page because we will be using the information to help us go over the page on Fridays in class. This part also requires a little action from you. It asks how many questions there were to answer in all, how many answers are correct, and what your child needs more help with from the questions that day. This is where you will sit down with your child and go over the math problems, see which ones they got wrong, and ask them what confused them. If they clear up their confusion, no need to write it down as something they need help with. If their confusion continues, write that down as something they need more help with. Prodigy and Think Central can both be counted as math homework instead of the day's math problems. Just remember to let me know that your child chose that for homework down below in the notes section. SpellingI think that everyone understood this section and did it perfectly. Make sure your child practices their spelling words every day. They can use the yellow Spelling Homework Ideas page located at the very back of their homework folder to help them find fun ways to practice. Make sure they write down what they did to practice their spelling. Class DojoI have noticed that many of you have been checking Class Dojo. Thank you! Now I want to explain to you a bit more about what the points mean that they are receiving each day. ![]() We have this clip chart hanging in our class. Each student has a clip that starts out on green every morning. Each time a student does something awesome, they get to move up one color on the clip chart and they get one point on Class Dojo. They continue to move up one color each time they are doing something great and continue to earn those points. If they are on pink, blue, or purple, they also earn rewards. However, when students have to move down the clip chart, they lose a point each time on Class Dojo. If they are down in they yellow, orange, or red zone, they also earn consequences. If you are curious as to what those rewards or consequences are, follow this link. Now please keep in mind that there will probably be times where every child will lose a point or two. Most of the time this is not something too serious, but you may want to ask your child what happened that day to make them lose points. If it is something more serious, I will include a note with the point taken or contact you via email or phone call if we need to discuss it in more depth. Thank you for reading this extremely wordy explanation. Hopefully I was able to clear up any confusion instead of add to it. This homework is actually something new I am trying this year, so if you feel like you have suggestions, please let me know.
